Brethren,

Recently I watched a documentary on the Discovery Channel entitled “Revealing the Secrets of Freemasonry.” I’m sure many of you have watched it and found it entertaining to see what the general public thinks Freemasonry is. I have been asked many times, “What is Freemasonry” or “What do the Masons Do?” For a time I found it difficult to put a response to that question into words. There seems to be so many definitions and it also seems to differ depending on what part of the world you live in.

While reviewing old Trestle boards in preparation for my year in the East, I found the perfect definition of “What is Freemasonry.” It was written in our November 1982 Trestle board under the hand of Wor. A. Kenneth Day.

“Freemasonry is kindness in the home, honesty in business, courtesy in society, fairness in work, pity and concern for the unfortunate, resistance toward evil, help for the weak, forgiveness for the penitent, love for one another, and above all, reverence and love for God. Freemasonry is many things, but most of all, FREEMASONRY IS A WAY OF LIFE.”

The definition above lays out a pretty simple road map for all of us to follow as we practice the Tenets of our Fraternity. For additional information on “What is Freemasonry?” please check out Brother Dan Silverman’s website: www.whatismasonry.com.

As a final note we are holding our annual Out of Hibernation 5K Road Race to benefit Seacoast Hospice on April 26th. We still need more people to help out and this is some you can do with your spouse, or friends. It’s easy work, fun, and goes to a good cause. Please contact Wor. Dan Stolworthy at 603-430-7558 if you would like to help.

Fraternally
