275th Anniversary Celebration

1736 - 2011

St. John’s Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M., of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the oldest Lodge in continuous existence in North America, is looking forward to celebrating 275 years of Masonry here in New Hampshire just four short years from now!

The 275th Anniversary Committee continues to meet periodically and discuss potential activities for our Celebration in the year 2011. The actual anniversary date will be June 24, 2011, which is a Friday.

Currently our plans call for a week-long celebration with wide participation by many Masonic Lodges and Brothers. Our tentative program for the anniversary week activities is as follows:

  • Monday, June 20, 2011: Open House and Tour of our Masonic Temple

  • Tuesday, June 21, 2011: Entered Apprentice Degree – by a team from the First Masonic District

  • Wednesday, June 22, 2011: Fellow Craft Degree – by the Lodge Officers

  • Thursday, June 23, 2011: Master Mason Degree – by the Past Masters of St. John’s Lodge

  • Friday, June 24, 2011: Banquet, charter re-enactment, toasts, etc.

  • Saturday, June 25, 2011: Boat ride on Piscataqua or Great Bay, tours of the Seacoast

  • Sunday, June 26, 2011: St. John’s Sunday observance at St. John's Episcopal Church, with parade and cook-out

All New Hampshire and neighboring Lodges will be invited to join in the celebration. We also plan to offer several commemorative articles for sale, such as a commemorative plate, a coin, a lapel pin, and a mousepad.

As our plans begin to firm up, we will keep you informed so that you may share your ideas with us. We will be pleased to receive comments, suggestions, and any other input that you care to offer.
